Karrier Gamecock GYJ 41
GYJ 41 is a Karrier Gamecock Water Tender seen at Anglesey Vintage Vehicle Show 14/5/2011. No signs on the vehicle other than a notice in the cab suggesting that it is 1957 vintage and new to Dundee.
Very unusual extension ladder with a Merryweather plate....looks to me more like a section from a wheeled escape...I may well be proved wrong.

In Part 1 1st edition MoF on ladders there is reference to a 40ft extension ladder sometimes known as an Edinborough ladder. Issued to some fire forces in lieu of an escape. The ladder has a solid heel board cf 45ft Lacon. It is "of robust constuction". I have never seen one but the one above could fit the description especially with the Scottish connection.

It looks like only a double extension type ladder, and the Gamecocks are fairly short, so I doubt this would make 45ft, if it really is that long would there not be a much bigger overhang?

GYJ 41 ended her career at the Tayside Fire Service volunteer station in Kirkmichael, Perthshire and was finally replaced by a Dodge in 1986. I had the dubious pleasure of driving her then and and can vouch that she was a bitch to start on a winter's day or night. We regularly had to use the handle and as a last resort there was just about enough of a slope out of the station for a bump start.
