A photo which shows some great roof detail. Taken from an upstairs cafe in Chester. A Dennis parked just ahead and a building inspection occurred up and down the street.
I think North Yorkshire were one of the early brigades to add safety adverts to the side of appliances. I believe it was done conjunction with a local frozen food manufacturer.
Yes, North Yorkshire was one of the first to put adverts on their appliances. The first they displyed was for North Yorkshire Ambulance service which offered a communications, paging service. Then they had the McCains adverts. This was to get people to buy oven chips instead of using a chip pan to reduce chip pan fires, there was a character called "Chippy McCain". They still carry adverts on there appliances for various safety messages.
Yes, I understand that when companies like McCain get involved, they are indeed adverts, but they are still public safety messages nonetheless. This Cheshire MAN is covered in such safety messages. There is not a single advert in sight. There is quite a difference between an advert and a safety message/campaign.
They still ruin the look of the machine itself. There are other ways of getting the message accross. Vans for instance. Brigades use so many of them these days.
Andy.....all our brigade vans have similar liveries, what you have to remember that whilst us enthusiasts are very concerned about keeping appliances looking traditional etc....its not really about 'us' We may not like it but it is a good way of advertising.....thats why firms spend great sums of money decorating their fleets of vehicles. Dont get me wrong...I dont like it any more than you do....but like loosing the ability to listen in to radio messages since the advent of Airwave....its not about us !
I can see some benefit in advertising fire alarms, get out/stay out warning signs, etc, but this appliance appears to be advertising road safety and the distraction risk.Is this not a distraction to other road users in its self. Its totally out of order, certainly way over the top, and really most alarming when drivers have enough to look at/think about on our busy roads today.
Its part of an image Pete ........ its fire safety on the near side....called sixth sense. Again on a personal preference....I am a traditionalist but your argument could relate to all vehicle fleet liveries being detraction....from the latest offers at Morrisons and Tescos to the girls names on Steady Eddy's trucks.....even the local plod has similar messages plastered over the sides of the speed camera detector van.
