Ron, Love the traditional photo of Tynmouth borough Fire Brigade. Please am I, right in saying this Brigade in the later years of its life went over to Coventry Fire Brigade Yellow or am I, getting confused? could you advise.
Hi Bob, nearly right. In 1968 they bought one of their AFS green goddesses, had it converted into a road accident vehicle and re-sprayed it yellow. That was the only member of the fleet so painted and infact the only one in the north east of England.
All Turntable Ladders carried a special 100ft length of flaked delivery hose which paid out from a locker at the rear of the turret. It would also carry limited hose etc but it was not usual to have a water tank......having said that, our 1939 Leyland Metz is fitted with a hose reel and small 'first aid' water tank
One of the Tynemouth Machines - I think it is FT8008? appears in the 1961 film 'Payroll' which is set in North Tyneside and Newcastle upon Tyne. It is an excellent film and well worth having.
Chris if you put IMCDB into Google and then search on "Payroll" you can see a still. It is listed as a F7 but I think it is the same appliance running as a pump in the film. IMCDB is very useful for 1960s and 70s films featuring interesting vehicles.
To Peter Williams The IMCDB is how I got the details of that film, however I actually purchased it from HMV Shop in Middlesbrough about eight months ago so its on general release. I collect period films about the North East, and have several. In the 1976 film version of the 'Likely Lads' also set on Tyneside a JVK---D AEC/Merryweather TL makes an appearence at the begining of the film. Whilst in 'Get Carter' (the proper one with Michael Caine)local Police cars and Ambulances can be seen. I think the Likely Lads AEC TL (JVK526D)is the one that is now preserved in southern England somewhere and is featured on this site.
