Did these rather odd conversations have a dead trailing axle, or were they re-engineered to 6X6 configuration? If converted to right hand drive, they must have been fun to drive in the rain, as the wipers seem to have still been set up for left hand drive! Altogether a rather odd choice, not only because Jeep had a rather underdeveloped service and parts network in the UK, but the Wagonnier chassis was not really ever considered a heavy duty alternative to the contemporary American Ford, Chevrolet, GMC and Dodge alternatives.
In he ‘80s and ‘90s, Staffordshire FRS had two of these and a GMC running as Light Rescue Tenders, courtesy of their Chief Fire Officer at the time, Peter Reid, being a former CFO of East Sussex FRS. Staffs also acquired a MAN Metz TL much like East Sussex’s... also thanks to his own personal preferences.
Ed: interesting approach to procurement. Might not be allowed these days.
