Berlin invented the rescue pumper concept, and now has at least one at each of their 35 full-time and 85 volunteer fire stations.
This has a 2000 liter pump, a 1200 liter tank, a full suite of rescue equipment, an extensive array of ladders, a CAF system for both class A and B fires and accommodates six crew members.
A newer, more compact and slightly less comprehensively equipped version with a 1000 LPM pump is in service at many volunteer stations, which were issued with rescue pumpers after the full time stations.
Narrow versions for easier access in old districts are also in use, as are a few 4X4 variants stationed in areas of the city which are not totally built up.
