Hi petros, nice classic photo and appliance. I assume that this is P546C ERF 84PF (LYM 627P) If so, according to my records, Barbican got this machine in 1981.
Dave Lewis, Barbican fire station was from 1965 and not the whole block was used as a fire station, it was part of an office block.
Wasn't that the base for the London Salvage Corps at one time?

No salvage corps were nearby in Aldersgate Street also demolished after they closed in the 80s. Above Barbican FS was a coroner's court and a social services office accessed from the famous high level walkway, the podium level. I am one of those rare people, a fan of the Barbican development. I am a housing professional and it proves high rise living can work - it was built as a council estate of course, though sold off under the right o buy and became high value pied a terre for BBC types and the rest.
Barbican fire station replaced the old Redcross Street fire station, which, having been the only building to survive the Blitz in the area, was demolished in the 1960s.The London Salvage Corps HQ Station was in Aldersgate. It wasn't far from this station, but it was a very different looking building. Sadly it has now been replaced by a modern office block.
