It was a large pile of timber (i think)on the old Barrow Road engine shed site, picture 16180 was also taken there. For some reason, none of the comments to this picture have come in on my emails.
Bob: Do you know when this PE was first placed in to service? To my eye it looks like a very early 1950s unit, configured very much like a Bedford S version of the Dennis F12 style. I like the four door cab, and have always wondered why so many Bedford S based appliances had no front doors, like the Bristol HCB water tender in picture 16180.
UHT 994 was delivered in the Spring of 1955, it was allocated to Stn. 5 Ashton Drive where it replaced Leyland HY 4979 which returned to Stn, 1 Bridewell as the 2nd Pump which in turn displaced a Bedford Heavy Unit, FYH 418. It remained at Stn. 5 until 1968 when it was replaced by the first ERF/HCB Pump Escape purchased by Bristol Fire Brigade, RAE278G. Remained in service as a Reserve until 1973 when it was sold to a Bristol scrapyard.

Anyone know who made the siren over on the nearside? Too large to be a Carter, but looks a little different from the Francis ones.
Do you by any chance have a shot of VHT 646 please ?
