Nice pic but for the record it's not a Cub, which would be an FK. It's a 1939 FT4A, sometimes incorrectly known as a Tigress, that was new to Cheltenham FB.

It states in the Leyland Society book on Leyland Fire Engines 1930-1942 this was purchased in 1939 by the Cheltenham Corporation Fire Brigade.

The Leyland book was first published in 2003 by the Leyland Society Ltd and priced at £8.95.It covers all the appliances issued from the 1930 to 1942 periods showing photographs, the first destinations of appliances when ordered, and very good informative facts and figures on the Leyland company, etc.

I went to You Tube and found the video Bristol Bob-thank you by the way, wrote about. The only thing I didn't like is that the camera didn't stay on the appliance long enough.

This appliance, while I would assume would be considered normal sized for its day, reminds me more of some of the midi-engines we have in the US. What I like about it, is its compact size, but still carrying quite a bit of gear and crew. Rather interesting where they place the pump. Did these appliances have a water tank, and booster hose as well?

Most Leylands of this era had a hosereel fed off a 40 gall tank.

Nice one Andy.A photo of pride and nostalgia.This appliance originally housed at the original Cheltenham Stn at St James Sq.It was still "on the run in 1961 when the new stn was opened at Keynsham Rd (this stn currently being demolished and rebuilt on site). Appliances in temporary accommodation in Kingsditch Lane.

Thanks John, this picture was taken by a colleague of my dads, in the yard of the station in Lansdown road Cheltenham, in 1955. This was also the brigade H.Q as well. I have a couple of pics my father took from the old wooden framed drill tower in the yard as well! The old station in St.James Sq is still being renovated, the last time I went by it a few weeks ago. Thanks for the info too.
