Kington WrL 491 @ 5 pump incident H&WFB

This Dennis 'R' Series appliance was on of a batch of 6 that Hereford & Worcester FB had in 1979. This pump started life at Droitwich in 1979 as the WrL2- 262, then became the retained WrT 263. This pump is pictured in January 1987, in High Street Kington, where it attended a serious house fire.

Nice save by the lads, , they must have been quick on the scene.

Pavel, I believe there were major water supply problems in the area, hence water relay required.

Love the Yellow "boil in a bag" leggings on the firemen. Paul

Paul, those leggings were rubbish weren't they when you think back. I was forever in the stores getting a new pair because they had a hole in them! On the other hand KNP 434T was a great machine. My dad rode it when it was at Droitwich and I later trained with it. I understand the old girl is in preservation and judging from the pictures I've seen of her, She's being well looked after. Shame the same can't be said about KNP437T, another of the machines I used, a photo appeared on this website recently and it looks rather sad, needs saving!

Hi Matt, yes a great looking appliance. We only had a few Dennis's which were Emergency Tenders. Getting really sad as I found a pair of my old yellow laggings in the garage recently.

Looks like a Y reg 1st or 2nd pump in the background. Is it a Dennis also?

Grant, That's a very good question. Hereford and Worcester started using RS's from 'V' registration. However that doesn't look like the rear end of a Dennis RS, plus I don't recall the Brigade having any 'Y' reg machines. I think there was a gap of new appliances between 'W' and 'A' reg. Knowing where this job was, Kington would obviously be first in attendance and I suspect the machine behind it was over the border, Welsh appliance from Presteigne. To me it looks like a Bedford.

Further to my last entry, Hereford and Worcester DID have some 'Y' reg RS's They were the ONP batch, just before changing to the 'A' reg SS's. However that doesn't help with the identity of the machine in question, as it clearly isn't an ONP!
