Oddly it does seem to stop quite well Barrie. Luckily whoever left it in the shed left the handbrake off, although it does need some adjustment. Check out youtube - I've uploaded a very amateur video... more pics on way Richard... Mike
Give us time Andrew, give us time! The plan to run her this year then look at returning her to her original livery after that. Not a five minute job. Mechanics first, fancy bits after.
Fantastic Mike, pleased the project is going well. You may find if you close the engine down incorrectly it will cause a major backfire, I found the best way to do it is to turn off the petrol tap and let it run out!
Thanks for uploading the additional picture and the Utube video. All interesting and great fun. Seems to me the front bumper in not a Leyland fitting? Maybe added by LFB at some time in its career? Also not sure the front seats are the original Leyland fittings? Anyway, great piece of kit. Regards, Richard
Believe it or not Richard they are all original fittings. You may also notice the hydraulic jacks - I think only Clacton's had that fitted in the UK. I'll try and upload some delivery pictures from 1936 so you can compare.
This is a long shot, but would anybody have any information on the hydraulic jacks that were installed on this vehicle? We are at a bit of a loss as to how they work... Thanks in advance, Mike
Just a long shot and something you have probably looked at but the slots in the back behind the wheel arch don't have stubs for hand pumping handles do they?
Do you mean H31 to A21... They were the only plates I had available. We'll be applying Croydon livery after the summer season.
Neal there are no other apertures for hand-cranking the jacks, other than immediately on top of each ram. A spring-loaded cap is able to be removed and there is some kind of chamber inside, but because there is no sign of oil in there, we don't know if there should be any in there or not.
DOH, how remiss of me Mike, yes I meant H31. Wonderful Fire Station in Oldtown. Went on a student swap in 1981 for a week, stayed behind the station in Duppas Hill Terrace and saw many a turn-out over the week. Barm pot Health & Saftey cranks wern't in existance then as an eleven year old I was given a chance to go down the pole.
Hi can you give me a update on avb 1 when we will see her on the run.I was at H31 afs station next door and went out on fire calls when it was Croydon fire service before london
One of these sat on a petrol forecourt in Stanley Park Road, Carshalton for a while in the 60's ... I played on it with my mates when we could get away with it ... Superb to see it running
