City of Cardiff Dennis F107 Emergency Tender.

This photograph shows(HUH314D)the City of Cardiff's 1966 Dennis F107/Dennis Emergency Tender.
I photographed the appliance in 1987 having just gone out of service and into preservation at the Pains Fireworks New Forest Fire Engine Rally at Ringwood,Hampshire.
The Fire Show was held on the weekend of the 18th/19th,July,1987 and was actually cancelled due to the appalling weather conditions, but we were able to still walk around(no fee)and at least try and get afew pictures.
Due to the poor weather the picture is by no means that perfect, but it does show the Emergency Tender as it was when first going into preservation back in 1987 and not like the condition its now in and shown in(picture 26573)on the site.

I remember seeing this ET at the Crystal Palace show in 1988. From new it carried all over red livery and like the Newcastle & Gateshead machine, it really looked the business. It also had a spell as a fire prevention unit and was painted white with a cartoon style character on the side.

I've just found your nostalgic picture having had a successful trip with Martyn West to Cardiff and surrounds in the South Wales F&RS yesterday.

It certainly brings back many memories of that horrendously wet weekend that virtually flooded the whole rally field at the Avon Country Club!

I was the rally secretary and we did manage to run the event on Saturday but after heavy overnight rain had no alternative but to cancel the event on Sunday morning although we did still do the road run from Ringwood to Christchurch.

The rain had been torrential on Friday afternoon and it was followed by more rain late on Saturday that flooded the previously pristine field and several fire appliances got bogged down and had to be towed or winched out. No more rallies there!

Your photo was taken before the start of the run outside the (recently demolished) former Wellworthy factory. The run was memorable because the very interesting ex Devon Bedford TK / Merryweather 60ft TL reversed over the Hampshire Police motorcyclist outrider before the start of the return trip to Ringwood! Luckily he was unhurt but his bike was scratched that caused caused him much paperwork - Hampshire Police motorbike run over by ex Devon fire engine in Dorset. Explain that to the sergeant!

What a shame that the interesting ET has since deteriorated so badly. I wonder if it's still at Rushden or has gone the way as so many once pristine appliances.

Your picture also shows the ex City of Cardiff ERF 84PF / HCB-Angus TUH 504J shown in Taff Madsen's shot (33426) on this site.

I think that was also gifted to the (since defunct) South Glamorgan Fire and Rescue Service Historical Society (along with the AEC Mercury / Merryweather TLP LBO 100F) - I know that the TL is now with the Mid and West Wales Fire Engine Preservation Group but what about the ERF?

Thanks for the putting the photo on the site - did you take shots of most of the appliances at the rally?

Hello Simon. As you say the weather really wasn't perfect so although I took a few pictures of this event, most turned out similar to this photograph........not to brilliant.

Pete.
