Cheshire F7 in 1961

This was taken in 1961 at Bebington where this PE was stationed. Unfortunately I did not get the reg, but I'm sure someone can supply that. I've not seen many colour shots of F7s when in service. Although I say it myself, it is a magnificent sight!

Is this not an F12, rather than an F7 ? I'm basing that on the shorter length of the locker behind the pump bay, which was always the quickest and surest guide ? Cheshire only had one F7 (MMB 450) and that was at Ellesmere Port initially. Bebington did however have F12 registered NMB 386. Remember, the F7 had a 13'6" whelbase, whilst that on the F12 was only 12'6" (hence the shorter locker on the F12)

Bebington was a only opened in I think 1958 although before that it did have a seperate AFS station the other side of the railway. Fire cover up till then being provided by Lever Bros. I think there was also a FoT converted from a HU can't remember what chassis could have been a Fordson.

Ian - Of course you are quite right. This an F12 -this broadside view seemed to emphasize the length of the machine and I clearly did not scrutinise the lockers carefully enough. No excuses really! Nevertheless a really beautiful machine!

You are correct in what you said about Lever Bros Neal, they had a lovely F8 which survives, I came across it last year in storage awaiting restoration in Staffordshire

Ah yes, the F8 that was supplied to Lever Bros., Port Sunlight was SMB 491.

Hi Barrie
Do you have any pics of the F8 that used to belong to Lever Bros. My Father was a fireman with lever bros when the brigade was actually called Port Sunlight Fire Brigade. I remember that it was in the 50's when they bought the F8 when I was a boy. I doubt if there was hardly any mileage on it when it was sold. I remember sitting in it just before my Dad retired and it was like new.

James I am sorry I do not have any photos of the F8 it was parked in a very cramped position.
