1961 Land Rover Series II Utility Vehicle

Nearly 50 years since entering service '4999 HN' returns to the old Borough Road Fire Station in Darlington, missing its hard top & capstain Winch it is hoped to return her to her Darlington livery & appeal to you Darlington fans for any photographs of her in service as I only have her in the background of photos in my collection. Also any help with finding a capstain winch or the Fairlead attached to the bumper.

Nice one Brett
Where did you find her. Doesn't look in bad condition either

It does look good to be back. I wondered if it would be photoed outside the station on the way past.

I bet your well happy.

Hi Brett try Steve Pickles FL Landrover at Freckleton (was Fylde Landrover) He used to be a FSPG member I don't know if he still is.
Was it L4V or L4T?

Hell.....that brings back some memories Brett....I used that to tow a trailer to transport the snooker table to Borough Road when it became the ambulance station

Barrie: Do you remember the other little Land Rover - XHN 999, and the Ford Thames van - 9999 HN ?

Added by Ian Moore on 25 January 2011.
Ian, I have shots of both the Series 1 and the early Thames van follwed later by another CHN 999C but do you know of 'NHN 917'that I found mentioned in old logs?
Mr Green if you have memories of 4999 HN, we need to speak re Livery and position of Marchel Blue light

Yes Ian I remember both, the van was used for FP duties if I remember correcly, Brett I have your email and will reply shortly

Brett: Extremely interesting, I don't even have either of the two extras that you mention on the database. Were NHN 917 (strange it didn't have a "999" plate) and CHN 999C both Land Rovers ? Could you email me shots of any of the UVs (eg: 9999 HN) could you drop me an email please ?

Added by Ian Moore on 27 January 2011.
It was not NHN 999, because that was already earmarked for the Commer Whitson WT acquired the same year. They also bought two Bedford ambulances, NHN 989 and OHN 1, which was my ride to hospital on one occasion!
