Thanks for posting this one Ian, a true classic 1965 AEC Mercury/Merryweather.It served Newcastle and Gatehead Fire Brigade, then Tyne and Wear MFB until 1984 then went as a reserve TL until 1987 before going OOS. This appliance I understand is still today in preservation.
Ian, whilst you are posting pictures of classic appliances in Newcastle and Gateshead livery, there is a 'Proper' ET who thinks he could also have some of the lime light in his old colours!
And how I would love to see this proper ET resplendent in it's Newcastle and Gateshead Fire Brigade livery.I love this ET, its one of the best in existance, but I'm longing to see it in its old livery.
Hello Ian. Just to let you know JVK526D is now being restored at Woodbridge in Suffolk. I'm an ex Tyne & Wear fireman now living in Suffolk. Best regards Peter Scott.
HI Phil. I'm hopeing to go to see JVK in the next few weeks so i'l take some photos. I know your TL CFT as I was stationed at Tynemouth for a while & also saw it at Preston Park, it's a credit to you. The ERF in the photo of JVK was stationed at The Fossway, wher I was first stationed as a raw recruit, . It was a 85ft HP reg SVK986G with a roll royce petrol engine ( 3 MPG ). I hope to see you at Preston Park this year. Besr regards Pete.
Great to see this TL that I worked on at Merryweather's in the 60s, at that time all the paintwork was done by hand, the colour combination looked really good.
Would you know if any of the AEC/Merryweather lists still exist? You know like chassis/body numbers, dates into service and Brigades issued to etc? It would be really interesting and useful to publish these in the style of the fleetbooks which are available for bus operators.
This appliance I understand is still today in preservation.
