A rare action shot, showing a TFD fire crew getting their mobile hose cart to work. These are a standard piece of equipment on all medium and heavy pumpers, and have a variety of hose capacities, accommodating both flaked and rolled hoses.
In this photo, the pre-connected suction has also been unrolled, and will be used to access the underground hydrant in the sidewalk, whose cover can be clearly seed next to them.
In Japan, it is common practice to use hard suction at the hydrant - or underground water tank in many areas - which means the pumper is right next to it. This means that sometimes a longish hose line is needed, which explains the rather large hose cart.
