I take it you have just bought this then, It was on Ebay only just before Christmas. What will you run it as? Original Spec hose tender, or as the later emergency tender?

The mileage is worth noting. Even the Gamecocks operated by Lancashire, a much busier brigade were generally low mileage. Those sold with 10, 000+ miles on the clock were regarded as having a very high mileage. Most were sold with less miles on the clock. Compare today's mileages! Good luck with the preservation.

Did these not origionally have water tanks but no pump as well as an oputfit of hose?!!

These were built as hose/personnel carriers and did indeed have a hose reel pump, first aid tank and single hose reel and towed Coventry CLimas large trailer pumps. Ordered by NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY FIRE BRIGADE. Three of them currently survive.

I have the Climax FF500 trailed pump which goes with it. Although it looks tidy in the pics, it realy does need a respray, which is on the cards when the weather gets better. My original intention, when I bought this little Karrier, was to convert it into a mobile workshop for use in conjunction with my Earthmoving business but, now I realise how comparitivly rare it is and how much interest it has generated since I bought it, it has to stay in its original form.Its a lovely bit of kit to drive and now I have reset the ignition timing, if I keep my big foot out of it, it will do 18 mpg! I would love to see any pics of the third one or indeed any of its sisters.

These Northumberland Karriers had the factory crew cab and a separate Miles box body.

This cab was usually supplied on Karrier municipal chassis intended for bin wagon (garbage truck)use and did not - as far as I know - appear on any other fire appliances. This makes these units rather unusual, in addition to their unique specification as combination hose wagons/hose reel tenders and towing tenders!

The idea of building a box on the back of a factory crew cab is of course very common these days, but in 1956 it was pretty much unheard of in the UK, although some European fire trucks were being built this way...
