Oldham Fire Station. 1973.
A view of appliances from 1973 at Oldham Fire Station. Shortly before the reorganisation that saw drastic changes in the fire service.
Notable (as was common with the county borough brigades) 2 aeriel appliances based in the same station.

Please can anyone viewing this photo tell me about the Bedford "J" type tipper lorry.
When I was fourteen years of age I stayed in a B&B on the corner was a Fire Station (I somehow think it was not operational at this point?) inside this station was this immaculate red Bedford J type tipper truck next to a gleaming immaculate Dennis F.7/F.12 there was just the two vehicles I have a feeling it was in Oldham but not the station shown, I ask was this tipper a salvage lorry General Duties vehicle I took a smashing photo of it but know little about it? I have it in slide format I have looked for information on it through the websites but can't find anything

Im not sure, but I seem to remember one on the brigades in Lancashire having a Bedford J type tipper which was used to collect coal for the fire station, which was used in the station boiler house and open fires for heating.

The Bedford Lory that Oldham had was 998 CBU, and there's a not very good shot of it on my system.
