Pure Nostalgia- Grimsby 1959

I thought I must share my memories of the last years of Grimsby's Chelmsford Avenue station and its inhabitants. This is my shot of GUC 624 Fordson 7V taken in 1959. The appliance ran as a PE when delivered during the war, having a forward mounted 350gpm Barton pump. It ran as such until 1952 when it was converted to an Pump/Emergency tender. It carried an array of lighting equipment, a generator and sported a 130g water tank and a single hose reel.

It has a well used look about it, an interesting picture.

A bit further up the East Coast, Whitby had one of these Fordson 7V pump escapes when I was on holiday there, also coincidentally in 1959 - actually in August, just after the Morris Mini was first launched.

It was original, with two hose reels, Barton pump and a wooden fifty foot wheeled escape. Painted traditional red by then, of course, it shared the appliance room with one of North Riding's two Plaxton bodied Commer pump water tenders (bodied in Scarborough) and a Land Rover, which had a Dennis 500 gpm trailer pump attached.
