Lothian and Borders FRS Volvo / Metz TL
Lothian and borders FRS TL from Tollcross at a Make Pumps 6 TL`s 3 fire in Broxburn on 5/5/09. This appliance was bought from Hampshire FRS and the first incident it attended was a 12 pump, 5 height appliance fire in the Cowgate in Edinburgh. It has now been replaced by another second hand TL, this time a Scania / Metz TL bought from Mid and West Wales.

AS well as being a rare action shot, it does also very nicely illustrate the "plumbing" for the basket monitor.
At the top, a short semi-rigid flexible tube, which is installed only if and when the monitor is deployed. Next, a fixed pipe attached to the top section of the ladder, and finally the supply hose.
This is a typical set up, used with minor variations for decades by both Magirus and Metz.
It does take a while to set up, unlike the built-in plumbing on aerial platforms and many US aerials and quints.
The reason seems to be a combination of cost saving and the relatively rare occasions when ladder towers are used as water towers in most European countries.
