To my recolection, Humberside ran 3 Dodge appliances. UWU 323L was inherited, I think, from Yorkshire. RAT 322/323R were purchased for evaluation. These served virtually all their careers at either Immingham/Grimsby/Cleethorpes before being used as divisional spares.
I have recieved info that Humberside ran four Dodge appliances, one at Goole, one at Snaith and the two R registered appliances mentioned earlier. Will post registration numbers when I get them.
I seem to think the two Dodges at Goole and Snaith were consecutive registrations UWU 322/3 L they were of course ex West Riding Fire Brigade stations absorbed into Humberside in 1974 - I rode the Goole appliance when detatched from Scunthorpe - out of interest Snaith was a 'nucleus manned 'retained station generally having one or two guys from Goole (the parent station) on duty to assist the crewing levels - they also had a retained Station Officer - his name was Dyer - it used to cause great hilarity when he answered the phone with 'Stn Officer Dyer 'ere' - we used to ring him up on purpose just to hear him say that - he never cottoned on !!!!
Sorry to disagree but RWY did not run out of Goole it was definatly a UWU reg I may be wrong on my previous post about consecutive registrations - possibly it was RWY from Snaith ?
I could be wrong on which station was allocated which machine. I have a photo of UWU 323L at Peakes Lane. I'm not sure if this was in for servicing or running as a spare
RAT 322R was on the run as the third pump (C15) at Peakes Lane, Grimsby for quite a while. Both 322R and 323R were known as 'The Rat' at Peakes Lane and Immingham. 323R was Immingham's third pump C45).
what a flash back, we had owt 699 at haworth station, retained, west yorks, i joined on the change over from west riding [i wonder if shes still running].the cabs had different colours for which area they came fro, bradford was post office red, halifax had a white band, ther was also bright pink, orange cabs, not sure where they where based, leeds weset, leeds east, wakefield or huddersfied.
