Central Elgin tanker

Tanker 32 from the Central Elgin ON Canada Fire Dept. No other info, sorry. Unit was in service during the parade and returned to quarters following the parade. But still a nice big beauty.

Rather typical North American tanker.

Used principally for water shuttles at structure fires in rural areas, with limited access to hydrants and/or open water supplies.

On 6X4 chassis, they usually carry between 3, 000 and 3, 500 US gallons. They can have a crew cab, but more often have a standard cab like this one. They are after all not usually expected to be operated as a stand-alone unit, but as part of a response which will include other trucks, often as many as half dozen to maintain the shuttle flow.

Pump capacities vary, but pumps are usually fairly small, to keep the total weight allowance for the water as high as possible, and mostly run around 750 to 1, 000 USGPM. (There are 3.785 liters per US gallon).
