The "Z" stripe is a Ziegler trademark, but a few German fire companies have also specified this paint treatment as their livery, because it is so distinctive.

The original "Z" stripe units placed into service were all Ziegler ex- demos, but now they are selling a few newly-ordered units with this paint scheme.

Some German fire services have introduced various complex paint striping and/or multi-colored livery, but for the most part they still tend to favor plain red bodywork, with white cab roof, bumpers and mudguards.
