Quite why the brigade deemed it fit to send a brand new appliance to take part in a gay march in Manchester is open to question!
This appliance is due to go to Low Hill (West Derby Road) Fire Station, Liverpool, as the second pump.

Why did Cheshire change that Mercedes pump from red to pink and send it last year ?

Added by Adam on 30 August 2010.
It was there this year as well Adam, it had a different locker display to last year, I think it was financed by Fire Angel. The pink is a vinyl 'wrap' and has been used on several breast cancer events during the year. I remains a reserve pump

Would love to see the "Pink Panther" on reserve duties Barry. It would get some strange looks in the more well heeled parts of Cheshire!

Gary, the 'Pink Panther' attended a breast cancer event in Warrington last year, it was then parked up in Warrington station yard overnight, we moved it into the no.1 bay in the appliance room at about 8.30am and told the oncoming day watch that it was on the run 1st away !!!!!! The look on the faces of the crew was priceless !!!!!!

Brilliant! Nice to see that a sense of humour is still there, even in the management led service of today!

Have you got any pics of NED at Manchester Pride? That stripework on it beats Battenburg for visibility any day!

Yes Gary will post shortly.....reluctant to put on here in fear of the flack !!!!

Barry, from what I've now just seen, expect plenty of flack. From me, no further comment.

How do these lightweight pumps compare to the conventional "full-size" units? Smaller pumps, tanks, less hose, less equipment, deletion of rescue gear, smaller crews, etc? Why the changeover? Is it only lower costs, or are there good reasons to shrink new applianceds?

The area this station covers has a lot of old narrow streets with the number of parked cars etc they are trying this appliance. It is at a two pump station so has a crew of four as standard on Merseyside. It will still carry rescue gear the small Lukas set.If it attends a RTC it will have backup from the USAR team as is now standard on Merseyside. so it is not just cost saving.

This appliance is stationed at the mo at station 12 Kensington alongside a 55plate Scania, you can see this on Norman Price's Fire flash Delta64 site.
