Adey, You are quite right with regards to DFS chassis being used as specials. But I think you will fine Sean's description is also correct. This batch is listed as: L609-618DDB 1993 Dennis DFS 237R4C with Saxon bodywork, except L609 DDB had Bedwas Bodywork. If I'm right GMFS was the only brigade to have pumps built on DFS chassis, in the UK. Hope this helps.
It is a DFS237, Sean is right. GMCFS bought 10 of these in 1993. L609DDB-L618DDB, all with Saxon bodywork except L609DDB which had Bedwas. This was one of a pair based at Wythenshawe.
The easiest way to differentiate a DF from SS, RS etc is to look at the front wheel arches. Dennis never manufactured a cab specifically for the DF. They simply mounted the RS cab on to it. Therefore, all DF's have widened wheel arches to cover the wider axle. Most DF's have battered arches, particularly on the nearside, as from inside the cab the driver could be forgiven for only allowing for the narrower RS or SS.
