Newton Stewart Water Rescue pump
Scania P270 appliance that just went on the run 2 days ago at Newton Stewart. Just visible to the left of the yellow beam gantry for the roof ladder is the water rescue pod which contains a boat and outboard motor as well as other water rescue gear. The water rescue pod is instead of a 13.5m ladder, and is lowered to the ground by a winch that is fitted on the roof. If required the water rescue pod can be removed and a 13.5 m ladder fitted in its place.

Does this pump carry the equipment pod all the time ? South Yorkshire fire and rescue use this system of "Equipment Pods" (sometimes called "Coffins")to carry water rescue kit. Their's stands upright in the station and when required the 13.5 ladder is slipped and the pod is wheeled to the rear of the appliance and then winched in place of the ladder. North Yorkshire is expecting 4 new Volvo Rescue Pumps in September this year and one of these will have this system fitted as a trial, this so a separate vehicle is not needed to carry the extra kit which will not fit on the appliance.
