So much better than the contemporary Braidwood style pumps and escape ladder carriers, which were still being supplied to numerous British fire brigades as late as 1940.
This had real upholstered seats, doors, even a second windscreen! More comfortable, much safer and - apart from missing a roof - a small measure of protection from wind and rain too.
So some brigades at this time still settled for the old Braidwood body, which had not changed much in over thirty years, others - like this - were open cab but had doors, and yet others were roofed in but had open sides! There were even some with a fully enclosed cab, with proper doors and windows, resembling French and German appliances of the same vintage.
