Another appliance Cheshire repainted into Day-glo livery. This was stationed at Knutsford and was one of four pumps attending a barn fire when seen here on 6th. September 1978.

Glory be, another classic photo from the ranch on the hill. Keep them coming John.

Wonder why Cheshire insisted on those little acorn beacons? Especially when the roof mounts were designed for the bigger Bosch type. Also strange that the bell over the OiC's position is electric, as opposed to a manually rung example.

Cheshire had electric bumper mounted bells for many years prior to roof mounting. I think electric bells were the norm by this time, but often as a secondary warning instead of horns etc.Cant understand acorn beacons either, no front repeaters but a vast array of side/head/fog lights. There is an acorn beacon on the rear o/s too.

By the same token...we had some F8s with only a hand bell, most 7s 8s and 12s had both electric and hand bells. We have the F8 in our heritage fleet and was retro fitted with concealed 2 tones. Someone in the higher Cheshire echelons had some strange ideas in the early days.

Just occurred to me. That bell might actually be MANUALLY rung, but via a mechanical winder (a bit like an old fashioned hand drill). The bump behind the bell covers the mechanical bits, and if memory serves - those bits were similar whether manual or electric.

Strange ideas? Having seen the Thornycroft pictures, bells below the windscreens was a new one on me for me on a domestic appliance. They looked beefy though, not like the Iveco L/WrT
