Although German Ford Transits often saw service with both full time and volunteer fire services in several European countries as light pumpers and occasionally other specials, the UK JCDD regulations did not permit small pump appliances such as could be adopted on the Transit base. For this reason, Transit pumps built in the UK appeared only among factory and industrial brigades, like this example. Typically, they had either a 300 GPM PP, or a PTO fixed pump rated at 350 to 500 GPM, and could accommodate a tank of 90 to 100 IG along with a four or five seat crew compartment.

A few British Transit light pumpers were built for factory brigades with the SVO three liter V6 Essex engine, which was also offered as an option on the ambulance chassis. These were a genuine 100 mph flyer, as I can personally attest during a blue light demonstration run on one very memorable occasion!
