1977 what is unusual here is that it is carrying a light portable pump on the frame adjacent to the trunnion bars. Taken at York Way, St Pancras in the aftermath of an incident where a firefighter died in a wall collapse.

Thanks for this one Petros. I've only seen this modification on two other London pumps, one being an F106 from Erith from the E or H divisions and the other on Shelvoke GYW628W of London's Burning fame.
Do you have any more pics of this incident?

Its the mountings for a wheeled escape ladder Luc

Hi Luc, trunnion bars were fitted to the rear of the appliance and were used to support the wheeled escape. They consisted of very heavy duty brackets fitted to the top of the end of the vehicle's rear chassis. Between the brackets was a thick tubular bar, on the ends of which were two chamfered discs. The claws fitted on the carriage of a wheeled escape engaged onto the ends of the tubular bar and the whole ladder then pivoted forward onto the appliance. The head of the ladder fitted into a gantry on the appliance roof. To finish loading the escape on the appliance, the ladder was pushed forward and two locking hooks engaged the trunnions with a very loud click. The escape ladder was then locked onto the vehicle. The chamfered discs were put there to ensure the ladder's claws engaged onto the trunnion bar. At that time all of our pumps had a gantry for carrying the light pumps in the manner shown in the picture, but we seldom used them. They were kept in the appliance bay with the light pump.
Petros, I attended the fire in York way as oic of L21 East Ham's ET. We went on 'make pumps 8' and I think it ended up at 40 pumps. It was a very large building and a major night time fire, with walls falling out etc. A TL was crushed and also a pump. We lost a colleague from Barbican fire station that night. It was a long time ago, but is still quite vivid in my mind.
