Dennis 'Borough of Howick Fire Department'

I have this dennis.I understand it was 1945 with a rolls royce motor. It was an old Pietermaritzburg Fire dept (South Africa) and then went to Howick. It was eventually taken out of service and handed over to a museum which collapsed. It was left standing in the open and deteriorated. I was told I could take it if I was interested in. I was a sub officer at the time it was in Howick. I don't have the funds to repair it at this stage

I would respectfully suggest its is more like 1965 than 1945 Grant

I would accept your comment. I have very little info at this stage.I do however have a photo of it taken after an accident whilst still with the Pietermaritzburg fire dept. 2 firemen were killed after it was involved an a crash with a bus while responding to a fire

I'd say 1972 onwards looking at the front grille.

I reckon (from the Dennis paperwork) that this is the August 1973 F48, chassis number F3105/448.

Only one fireman was killed in the accident on the corner of Victoria Road and Boshoff street Pietermartizburg. There were a number of firemen injured one serious.

HiRupert
Thanks for adding your comment. Thanks also for rectifying the info which I had regarding the death that it was 2 firemen. We are in the process of trying to get this vehicle back in working order. Please visit our facebook site Hilton Railway Emporium
