Dennis Big Six at Beaulieu 1967

Here is a picture of a Dennis Big Six taking part in a fire event at Beaulieu in 1967. I had hoped that it might of been my Big Siz JD1490 but I am not so sure that it is.

My Big Six did end up in Sussex but the radiator and and trim strip behind the bonnet is brass. The photograph almost implies that it is chrome, although quite possibly someone had been very busy with the Brasso.

The locker door (with some imagination) says 'Smith Bros Fire Department, Cuckfield, Sussex'. Can any cast any light on the true identity of this imposing machine?

Barry I have emailed you offline but I suspect this is JD 1490 ex West Ham Fire Brigade. The bodywork is identical in every detail. My records show JD was owned by a Ray Smith of Cuckfield at some point - could Smith Bros Fire Department be a flight of fancy - just name of the owners at that time?

And, even further on "Flight of Fancy" - the legendary 'Smith Brothers' as in the 'Smith Brothers Cough Drops', founded 1847 in Poughkeepsie, New York, USofA, featuring the 2 bearded gentlemen-owners as the Trade-Mark on the package.

William Smith's portrait was over 'Trade' and Andrew's was over 'Mark', on the package label; so, they were known to generations as "Trade" and "Mark".....

The family were Scotchmen(OK - Scots) who arrived in New York, via Quebec, Canada. I am sure that this product had found its way, to your side of the Atlantic Ocean.
