Ex Witney UDC Leyland Cub
This Leyland Cub pump escape (UD 8790) was purchased by Witney Urban District Council in July 1937 to replace a 1915 ex-London solid-tyred appliance. It gave thirty years of service, latterly for Oxfordshire County Fire Brigade, of which the Witney brigade became part after the war, and was finally retired in 1967. It was restored in the 1970s and is now on display at the Oxford Bus Museum in Long Hanborough.

Whilst serving with South Eastern Fire Brigade, Hq Lauriston called into Witney fire station and was surprised that such a machine was still on the run. She was immaculate and looked a lot better than her present status shows.

The Leyland Cub is now being repaired and will not go back to the bus museum, as they cant store it any more, but will remain in fire service hands whilst we look for alternative accommodation
