Ex Boscombe Down TACR2

Trailered to the Gaydon event then towed here, this TACR2 MCG902T was purchased from Withems SV by two Land Rover enthusiasts and brought to the 40th Range Rover celebration at Gaydon on May 1/2nd.It will require some considerable restoring but the vehicle next to it was in a similar state a few months ago and was driven from Brighton by SixAppealWheelGroup members! Now for the mystery question?
What is the purpose of the canvas 'bag' on the bonnet?? Some suggest it was for a hose or spare tyre?? Anyone know....

Walt,if it is any help re the bag, it is not on any pictures I have when on the run at Boscombe but it is shown when in the Boscombe museum some years ago.
I wonder if the museum put it there for some reason.

The canvas bag on the bonnet was for carrying mainly Jaguar brake chutes when we retrieved them from the taxiway after the Jag had landed and jettisoned it. The chutes were to big to fit in the vehicle but mainly because they were contaminated with avtur fuel and gave off avtur fumes, when deployed the exhaust wash from the engins would contaminate them.. so health safety probs putting them in the vehicle. They stank something terrible. Ahh the memories.

The bag was put on the bonnet to pick parachutes up and keep them from blowing away. From Maddog. I was a firefighter at Boscombe Down.
