Although the standard Japanese pumpers' configuration has not changed, this Isuzu does illustrate that the newer ones now look a lot less messy, as everything is enclosed behind roller shutter lockers.
I am personally pleased to see that they are still all red - cab, body, lockers, roof, bumpers, even the wheels and grille. And no reflective tape anywhere! The only exceptions are the rescue trucks, which have the white "lightning flash" on the side. I forgive them this, although I don't like it, because it is a practical fireground idea and does not seem to have turned into a trend.
For this reason, Japanese (and US) fire trucks tend to have a complete set of fronr, rear and side mounted red flashing lights, so they are very easy to see both while responding and on scene.
The Japanese police are also very good at responding to fire calls and keeping traffic away from firefighting operations, just like their colleagues in the US and in Germany.
