Quite popular in New Zealand and the Netherlands in their day, but the Trader never seemed to catch fire with the UK fire brigades, although the London Salvage Corps had (I believe) two.
I believe the only fire brigade to operate a Trader in the UK was the City of Oxford, which had a Trader ET. It should be noted that Traders were not famous for having very powerful engines!
The D series, which replaced the Trader in 1966, gradually developed a following and they were purchased by around a dozen brigades, as well as being very popular in Australia and New Zealand. Introducing the Perkins 170 BHP V8 diesel as an optional engine choice helped a lot. (This was the same engine as was used by Dennis, ERF and S&D in their fire appliance chassis.)
But Ford was never able to catch up to Bedford in the UK, especially s the D series was introduced five years after the TK, and the TK was deservedly already doing very well as a fire appliance chassis!
