Would be nice to see it preserved in LFB colours with Blackwall plaques on doors.

What a nice appliance, it was last used briefly in series 10 in first episode when it was at Blackwall alongside the Volvo. This had the girder smashed through the windscreen at the end of series 9!
There is one of these fire engines sitting outside a house up the road from where I am, I think the owner is going to turn it in to one of those limo's, shame really, he aught to rebuild her back to her former glory again, but I still wished that I could afford to buy my own fire engine, that would have my neighbours talking, mind you, with the amount of bon fires we get round this area, I would have fun putting them out using my own fire engine as well of course thanks for your comments

LIMO - No don't do it!!
I knew a lad who spent his 'Fortune' on an Engine, And he hardly made any return on it over about 3 years or so.
You have to approach it and say to yourself - How many young people will pay 200 - 300.00 an hour to sit in a fire engine, Ok it might have all the mod cons, But the demand is not consistent.
You would have to have at least 3/4 bookings a week to make it pay.
At the end of the day it is not about looking nice, But making your hard work pay.
Mark you are right its not easy making money out of fire limos i own 2 of them. were you are wrong is you do not make £200-£300 a hour if that was the case we would all be doing it. £125 a hr or £95 for 45 mins seems to work. No one will ever make a living from fire limo but as myself have a full time job,i can earn by doing part time. The cost involved is £2000 insurance a year 2 mot and one council inspection plus road tax.

Thank god for that. It's sacralidge to see fire engines looking like they do with a load of drunk laddettes hanging out of them. A lot of history in fire engines and brigades no longer offer them to committed preservationists and bit time charlies still get hold of them.
Terrible to see it in this condition. Lets hope someone buys it and preserves it back to its former glory. Am sure there are plenty out there that would do so.
Would be good to see all preserved fire engines mot and taxed that way keep them up togather and safe just like fire limo.Trouble is a lot preseved vehicle look nice outside but are not safe to be driven on the roads.one thing about a fire limo if vosa regulated or private council plated then 100% safe.

i think michael that if you got a machine from the brink and restored it found its history etc you may appreciate them more? i hate seeing fire limos they are the next best thing to scrapping them as for safety would you honestly drive your family around in an unsafe vehicle? and endanger other road users? you see you have to go to great lengths to ensure the safety of your passengers where as in my preserved TL the responsability lies on the passenger and the knowledge that the vehicle is safe it also has belts fitted as standard

Jason i have restored a fire engine and i have its full history i also take it to shows so yes i do appreciate my scania so much that i think it must be in the top 5 scania 3 series there are. yes safety comes first thats why my fire engine is mot tested once a year has the correct insurance and also has seat belts fitted.

The point i am trying to make is this VOSA are considering the merits and disadvantages of plating and testing restored vintage appliances, this train of thought has been bought on by the Limo Hire business and the want for people to make a swift buck from having gutted a perfectly good machine and when the money stops earning to then advertise the machine as a business as a opportunity look on ebay the proof is there. I and my family have been restoring fire engines for over 30 yrs and i am proud to associate with other like minded preservationists one of which i service and restore a fleet of vintage machines for ranging from 1950s to late 90s if i for one moment thought the work i was doing was eventually going to result in the machines being converted in to a limo then be rest assured i would stop now These veiws are echo'd by the FSPG and HCVS and will fight to keep historic machines from going into decline through increased legislation

Hi Jason i and many others have brought our engines off of FSPG members, also it is because the fspg tried to stir trouble with vosa ect that many things have come to light. A fire engine out of service, is a ex fire engine no matter what you use it for. If the fspg and fire engine restorers kept to there thing i have no problem with that and good luck to them i have no problem with that as i also like looking at nice old fire engines. i also have a nice old fire engine.

Hi Michael. I would like to remind you that the libel laws apply to comments made on the internet and that not only could you get yourself into trouble you could also involve the team that keep this excellent website going. The FSPG is the largest group of its type in the country and its main aim is to keep british fire fighting history alive. I would suggest that if you have a problem with the FSPG you should contact them direct and stop involving sites like this one.
It would be great to this machine brought back to her former glory. Not so much because of her TV nostalgia, but because the Dennis RS, as with all Dennises (apart from the ill-fated Dagger), is such a historic marque.
I was a big fan of London's Burning in my youth, but it did used to bother me that the producers cast two Dennis RSs in the main role, when London Fire Brigade have never had an RS. They ran plenty os SSs though.
Any further information about this appliance? Would like to know how much it would cost to buy if available for sale. If this is not for sale any one know of this model type available anywhere else
