Not a bad machine, i do think though that this would be much better with the same front door style on the back doors. The thing that strikes me looking at this cab design is how dark the crewcab must be?? Any serving ff's on these appliances know any different?
I ride a Volvo FLL in Suffolk and with the same doors on front and back, it creates a really pleaseant environment to go to shouts in, its spacious, comfy and very light and bright.
its down to cost i expect, this is just a chassis cab with the crew cab added on by the body builder, the crew cabs built by the cab manufacturer with the same doors front and back(same cab as the Daf LF etc)look much better, possibly the re-sale value of this vehicle will be higher,as when its sold oos,and the body is detached it will be cheaper to replace the cab back panel, there is possible a smaller market for trucks with a full built in crew cab,BT tried this years ago, they had large cable vans built with a crew cab for welfare use,(seats and tea/food facilities)but had trouble selling them,so newer vehicles were just fitted with standard 3 man cabs and the welfare section was built into the van body,so either the body could be replaced or converted,to look like a normal truck when sold off..
Hampshires later Volvo FLL's are fitted with the Volvo crew cab.

These appliances were delivered to all but five Wholetime stations. The remaining five Wholetime stations are currently being issued with newer FLL's with full crew cab. Winchester Fire Station did have two of the original FLL's but now have newer ones since moving to a new station. The WrL at Winchester has been re-designated 'Rescue Pump' and is fitted with CAFS. Unfortunately, this is printed all over the appliance. I believe the former FLL's will be going to the retained stations of Bordon and Hythe.
The separate crew cab - although ugly - does offer the advantages of enclosed steps, a bit of extra width (in case you ever get six riders these days) and headroom, and the split tilt cab provides marginally better access to the mechanicals than the four door factory tilt cab.
London are doing a similar boxy separate crew compartment on their new Ategos, but the Volvo/Renault factory crew cab is good enough for almost every fire service in France, so it must be okay......
