Taken in 1998 just prior to this ET being taken off the run and replaced with a MAN/JDC RSU. This I believe was capable of being used as a CU as well. Served all its like at Scunthorpe.
I drove this ET from new it replaced a Bedford SB ex Lindsey County Fire Brigade BBE 157 B and the MAN RSU that replaced it - it was altered to be capable of being the reserve command unit and indeed was used on a number of occasions including a 25 pump fire at Stallingborough (Humberside) in the 1980's
I should add - it was a 'one off' build and one of only very few Dennis DS Emergency Tenders's built - North Yorkshire had a fleet as well but with different bodywork
Scunthorpe still has an Emergency Tender today - it’s a Scania but they renamed the role to ‘Rescue Support Unit’ presumably to better reflect its primary capability, alongside the fact that Control Units are now a seperate vehicle.
