They are impressive I have seen these in use at many incidents, I will upload some pictures later of these vehicles rescuing pumps out of bogged fields.

This vehicle is still with Essex as a reserve off road vehicle and is currently on the run at Dunmow.

Excellent off-road vehicles. Essex currently have four, based at Manningtree, Burnham-on-Crouch, Billericay and Great Dunmow. They have only ever had four available at any one time and are now on their second batch of four.

Walked passed Manningtree fire station yesterday, Saturday 1st Feb 2014, and their Steyr Pinzgauer is still "on the run". Spoke to a fireman just leaving, he said they are keeping the four units until a decision is made on replacements, even though they are unable to source spare parts. He commented that they are well liked by the crews. He speculated they might get something based on a large station waggon when replacement is required.

H576MEV is now with a company called Cleve Care (in Worcestershire). They provide specialist patient transport services to the social care sector. It is painted yellow and was at the Emergency Services show ESS 2015.

Hi, walked passed Manningtree week after Christmas and the unit is still in the station, no one around to question, presume it is still on the run. Reg. is EU55MVF

Look like they are all going to be removed from service having seen the proposals for cuts to ECFRS. I think they will possibly have some other form of off-road vehicles as replacements - we shall have to wait and see.

Now run Mercedes sprinter 6x6

The. Sprinter 6X6 is nowhere near as capable off road as a Pinzgauer, but it does have a higher payload, is quite a bit quicker on the highway and much more maintenance friendly when it comes to accessing spare parts. It was developed primarily to offer increased payload capacity for the existing Sprinter five ton 4X4, which was in turn intended to offer improved traction in winter conditions, compared to the rear wheel drive version, rather than to be used as a serious off roader. In Germany and Austria fire services use a lot of 4X4 vehicles even when they are not expected to go off road very much, especially in hilly and mountainous areas where winter road conditions can be challenging.
