Faro Airport (PT) Oshkosh StrikersBefore boarding my plane, I managed to get a few shots of Faro Airport's ARFF vehicle '01', an Oshkosh Striker 3000 6x6. Aeroporto de Faro (Algrave region, Portugal) has at least two of these, the other one is number '07', which can be seen in the background. Apart from that, there are at least three older Oshkosh ARFF tenders, two 6x6 ('04', '0x') and 4x4 ('02'), in red-white-black livery with green ANA markings. There is also one MB Actros 'Allrounder' ('13') and a light 4x4 command unit (probably a Toytota Hilux). There could (and given that the vehicles' tactical numbers go up to at least 13, there probably are) more vehicles. Spotting them was quite a challenge, as the fire station itself, located just south of the runway, was undergoing extensive renovation and the vehicles were virtually all over the place. Some were standing around the control tower (like '01' and '13'), others, like '07', along the runway, with their crews sitting in the cabs (in civilian clothes though).
The fire service is maintained by the Airport Authority of Portugal (ANA), which manages 7 key airports in the country.
The Oshkosh Striker '07' from Faro is available as a 1:50 diecast model from THW Collectibles, along with Lisbon's '04', Porto's '05' and a Portugal 'base vehicle' (no tactical number).
I'm sorry for the mediocrity of the picture, but the window wouldn't open, hence the 'filter' of a dirty pane and, with me being stuck within the confines of the gate area, it was impossible to get a better angle ;)
