This is a New South Wales Rural Fire Service. Category 1 (4x4 3300L) vehicle. They come in 3 standard configurations, this is the Village/ Multipurpose Config. Carries equipment for village type incidents while still maintaining full bushfire capabilities.
Crew of 4 or 5.
This type of vehicle is the primary type of appliance used by the NSW RFS.
All 70,000 firefighters in the NSW RFS are volunteers, making it the largest fire service on the planet.

Alex:

I have to agree, and I think the lack of recognition is very sad.

I lived in both France and Germany, where the great majority of firefighters are also volunteers - and I owe it to an entirely volunteer fire department in Mahasset NY that one of my houses was saved, when I lived there in the 1990s.

I am trying to persuade the powers that be in my native England that it is time to start recruiting volunteers, at least in small towns and rural communites. But they have decided to cut costs by keeping only paid full and part time on call firefighters on the roster, but gradually reducing manning levels, getting rid of second pumps and specials like aerials and closing what have suddenly become "unnecessary" fire stations.

This has been going on for years, and will likely continue until some disaster finally wakes them up!

I am hoping the fatal Grenfell Tower fire might be enough to get them thinking about reversing this mentality of continuous cutbacks. In the past thirty years or so London has gone from 212 pumps and 28 aerials to 150 pumps and 13 aerials - now it is far below similar sized cities like New York, Paris and Tokyo.
