Nice touch for the guys riding the rear-step; the windshield fitted for them, over the rear hose-bed.
Canopy Roof fitted to the well-known Ford truck chassis, with the rear-facing jump-seats("Granny seats" for Pav, and a "growler" up front, incorporated into the grille).
Similar Fords appear in several other countries' Fire Services, on this 'Site.
As stated 750 US GPM Pump (625 IGPM, 2840 LPM) and 500 US Gallons (416 Imperial Gallons, 1895 Litres) Water Tank.
Wonder if "Junior", standing proudly amidships by Deck Gun, went on to join the Fire Dept. ?
Pat, could have done with that back step windscreen back in the '60's, recall turning out to an alarm at the gin distillery in Te Atatu, Auckland New Zealand in driving rain, was riding the back step of an early model long-nose Fargo appliance, and can never forget trying to shield our eyes from the stinging rain, had to lower our heads so the helmet took the brunt of it!! The Distillery was always a high risk attendance and we would have been going like the clappers!! To have been on the back step with another guy meant we had six in the front cab - not bad for third machine response for a volunteer brigade, aye??
I only got to play on this as a kid by the time I was old enough to join they were gone. I did get to ride the old truck though before it was totaled. I would love to hear some of the old war stories and history of Accokeek.
