D494BSC a Renault-Dodge G13C was built by Mountain Range in 1986. F907USX another Renault-Dodge G13C was built by Excalibur CBK in 1989.

The header denotes the appliances in the photograph as Water Tenders. They were actually Water Tender Ladder Emergency Tenders (WrLETs), and were the former Lothian and Borders FB’s effort to adopt the concept which was gaining popularity in the UK at that time, of combining the capabilities of a standard Water Tender pumping appliance with the early intervention road traffic accident rescue capabilities of an Emergency Tender. This concept, unlike some later UK attempts to combine appliance capabilities, was reasonably successful and ultimately led to the ongoing development of what we know today as Rescue Pumps.

Lothian and Borders FB acquired 19 of these dual purpose appliances between 1986 and 1990. D494BSC and F907USX were originally allocated to Haddington in East Lothian, and Edinburgh’s Sighthill Station respectively.

Mention is also made above of one of 907’s sister appliances, F903USX, which happily survives in preservation. 903 was the middle one of the 19 supplied to the Brigade and was initially allocated to Livingston Station, carrying the call sign 551. It is believed 903 is the last surviving example of the original 19 WrLETs built for the now legacy Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade.

ED: the site has no category for hybrid rescue pumps or WrL/ET. Sorry
