Gleaming Dennis F101's, canvas hose, black helments & leggings. Perfect!

What a great period British Fire-Scene photo....it says everything.

BTW - what would be the metal box, carried on the back of the Fireman, next to Officer in white helmet ? the paint-work looks worn - an early portable radio ?

I believe it was an early R/T set. They were very "clunky" and basic at that time.

Yes Roger then known as a 'walkie-talkie' or 'pack set'....even today our hand held radios, which are not much bigger than a mobile (cell) phone are known as 'pack-sets' in our brigade.

Thanks, Gents;

I had some experience in late 60's with the big, awkward crystal-controlled 'portable' radio-telephone sets.

Still amazed at today's infinitely programmable channel 'hand-helds' that you drop into your pocket......
