What are these actually used for?

Added by Michael Penny on 11 January 2010.
The State Fire Service of Poland currently owns more than 30 cranes - 18t (KAMAZ/Famaba), 30t (Bumar-Labedy) 40t (Bumar, Liebherr), 50t (Bumar). They are used to supplement the heavy rescues and rescue & recovery ( www.firerescue.pl/displayimage.php?album=123&pos=17 ) appliances at the scene of road accidents involving HGVs, tankers, etc., as well as train crashes, structural collapses, recovery of submerged vehicles. Basically, they're there to lift heavy/large objects that a Palfinger mounted at the back of a rescue appliance wouldn't.

Lifting heavy objects of all kinds (vehicles, large trees that fell on top of buildings, parts of collapsed structures), what else?
