One of these was the first fire engine I ever set eyes on seventy years ago in Redcar. The only difference I remember after all these years is that it had a mid mounted pump, presumably so that it could carry a wheeled escape ladder. Unlike this example, it had red leather seats, and I was welcomed by a very friendly fireman to sit behind that giant steering wheel and then move over to ring that exceedingly loud bell! He could not have known it, but he set that little boy off on a lifetime of interest in fire appliances, including on a few occasions getting involved in their design, manufacture and sale.
Google 'flickr fire saltburn marine parade' and see Redcar's Cub in action along with Bedford S.

Thanks, I did not know there were any photos of it when it was still in service. I guess I was right about it being a pump escape although I don't remember looking at those very impressive ladder wheels back then. I believe it is still in a Museum in The Netherlands, of all places. Hoping to see it again one day - once travel across the Atlantic gets easier.
Yes came across pics while watching a long film about Saltburns Centenary events in 1961. So Redcars Cub had a long service life of at least 24 years. The fire in the roof of the tall buildings is why Saltburns retained station runs a CARP now.
