I can give you some information on this Particular fire tender ;)
It was "sold" to my father by the fire salvage around 1984 /86, and we converted it into a FANTASTIC motorhome, and travelled around Europe towing a selection of boats with it. He owned it until around 1999. At which time he sold it on. I was gutted to discover he had sold it, he never told me his plans. I would love to know where my friend is now. The only time i heard her bells was in Germany, when on passing one of the factories, the bells re-connected and rung on the roads... but my memory is foggy as i was only young.. I was told there was only ever 9 of them ever made, and certainly trying to get spare parts was always a challenge!
The appliance that was destroyed was the sister to the above vehicle. It was brand-new at the time and had been left unattended on the forecourt of the Liverpool Salvage Corps HQ at Derby Road. Unfortunately, some passing people stole it and proceeded to joyride up and down the Dock Road, chased by a number of police units, it eventually crashed into a brick wall and was written off - much to the horror and embarrassment of the Salvage Corps!
Both from 1975 JYE 995N & JYE 996N.
