NDM563E ERF 84RS/HCB-Angus/Simon SS85First post-war aeirial appliance to go on the run in Flintshire. Aquired in 1967 and costing £18,800 it was allocated to my home town of Rhyl. Replaced war time Austin K4/Merryweather 60' hand operated TL GXN 211 which was reallocated to Deeside to protect the booming industries of east Flintshire. Two months after going on the run, this appliance was seen in anger for the first time when, involved in a fatal hotel fire on the town's West Parade which cost the lives of two holiday makers from Manchester. Served the town until 1987 when ERF84RS/Jennings/Simon SS263 KDM860K was reallocated from Deeside. This was my first attempt at 14 years old let loose with a SLR camera and apoligies for the bubbles on the left, that was due to a deluge as I was standing under the old wash at Rhyl. Went up in her cage in 1980 and at full height I witnessed the now sorley missed Dennis RS133/Dennis WrL RDM360V turn out. Whatever happened to Perkins V8 engines. The Foden coach in the background belonged to Rhyl Town FC. When Deeside recieved KDM860K in 1972, GXN 211 was garaged at Flint for some time before being purchased by the Hawker Sidderly Aircraft Co in Broughton who used the appliance for many years. It is now in the Merseyside Fire Museum collection and was for a while garaged at Heswall fire station.
