Stonefield Vehicles Ltd was a Scottish company set up to produce 4x4 and 6x4 specialist vehicles. In actual fact though, only six ever went into active service with UK fire brigades including this one actually from 1978. This 1978 Stonefield with bodywork by Angloco served at Larsen Road Fire Station in Goole with the Humberside Fire Brigade and went out of service in 1983. Other brigades to operate them were Strathclyde FB(1),Grampian FB(1),Lothian & Borders FB(1),and last,Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service(2). Around the 1975/76 period,West Sussex are beleaved to have ordered 3 Stonefields. On delivery of the first, and having had body fitted by Pilcher Green of Burgess Hill in West Sussex, the appliance went for acceptence test but(its a long story)was not eccepted by the brigade and the order fell through. That actual Stonefield is now in preservation at the Fire Services National Museum at Weedon in Northamptonshire. If anyone as a picture of the WSFB Stonefield I would very much like to see and obtain a copy please. Although only six Stonefields went into service with UK Fire Brigades, many more though did go into service with airport fire services.

Thanks for the county history Paul, just to add to the airport machines, they were hated! Quotes such as underpowered, top heavy and handles like a tank were some of the more polite ones I heard over the years!
Good to see a picture of this in its original form, I now own it along with a couple others. It's unfortunately been chopped up and is in Pick Up form, fitted with a Volvo Penta diesel and 5sp Spicer G/box, still goes well and is surprisingly good off road,, Not anywhere near as top heavy now it's a pick-up.
Terry Maslin used to be Stn Comm at Goole and he was certainly less than impressed with it. I last saw it nearly 10 years ago just round the corner from where Terry parked his machine of the time altho' he hadn't in fact spotted it.
