Dennis D London Salvage Corps EYF 689J

a poorish photo of an interesting appliance. Designated Damage Control Units by the time rather than salvage tenders, they had bodywork (here assumed to be by Dennis) like a small emergency tender. Rare on the D series chassis though, as most special were on the larger F series.

The Dennis D was the only one in the corps it was supplied and built by Dennis and had a 4.2 litre jaguer engine fitted to a manual 5 speed gearbox.
it was well liked by the crews that rode in it.
It had a crew of 6 to 8 and it carried 80 plastic and 20 polythene salvage sheets 10 roof covers and 4 ton of corrigated metal sheets.
There were 6 BA sets and 300ft of fire hose 2 submersible pumps and a portable pump and 2 high output fans and 2 electric wet vacs carried. the vehicle was given to the midland transport museum when it retired

The Dennis D is one of only two specials on this chassis. It passed from the LSC to the LFB who donated it with a Dennis 106 to the National Fire Museum. We purchased this vehicle in 2013 and are busy restoring it.

I remember that Middlesborough CB had a D series ET, which ahared the South Park station appiance room with three other D series pumps. As I recall, it looked almost identical to this Salvage Tender.

That would be ADC999K Rob, which had been new to Teesside Fire Brigade in 1972 and thus post Middlesbrough CB. Middlesbrough C.B had a Bedford TK/Miles ET DDC999C which had been new in 1965.

Chris - does this mean the Bedford was replaced after only seven years, or did it move to another Teeside station?

Chis do you mean ADC999K? see your very own photo #14930, or is this a re-registration?

The Tees-side ET was a F108 as Neil commented only two D series specials the other been a FoT looking like a pump but using rear cab area.

There are more D series specials thank you think.

Look out for my article in the FSPG OTR in coming months..
